THE WEEK AHEAD
Rogue Takeover – Rattle N Hum Bar
While nanobreweries, gypsy breweries and all assorted other brewing oddities seem to get the blog-love these days, its important to remember the trailblazing brands of America’s first craft beer movement… “Microbrews.” A formidable craft beer brand since 1988, Rouge helped defined the Pacific Northwest’s beer revolution with many of the beers we now take for granted, most notably the infamous Dead Guy Ale. Celebrate their growth tonight with 25+ draft lines and cocktails made with the Rogue spirits line.
Dogfish Head Vertical Tasting – Green Grape Provisions
Few notes on this one buy you can grab yourself some free, fancy Dogfish Head glassware at this “vertical” tasting. Let’s just hope they actually mean vertical – several vintages of the same beer – rather than horizontal – many beers from the same brand.
Ballast Point Draft Event – Bierkraft
Bierkraft continue to fill their growler (and tap) lines with fantastic beers week after week. This time they welcome San Diego’s Ballast Point Brewery. While the 100pt Sculpin IPA will most likely make an appearance, stop by for rare casks of their Tongue Buckler – palate wrecking, imperial red – and Sea Monster imperial stout.
Bierhaus NYC Grand Opening – Bierhaus NYC
A new beer garden in midtown? Yes please! Tonight is the grand opening of the new Hofbräu Bierhaus. Working in conjunction with, although not owned by, their German counterpart, this new after-work beer mecca will be slinging six different varieties of Hofbräu along with other beer garden goodness like communal seating, a 50-ft balcony, and german fare to eat. Tonight’s open will start up at 6pm with a traditional keg tapping around eight. Check out photos from Monday’s soft opening, here
What’s On Tap Launch Party – Idle Hands Bar
For those who like to know their taps before they hit the bar, there’s a new app in town. What’s On Tap is helping New Yorker’s choose their drafts before they leave the house. Tonight is their kickoff with free food, $5 pints and assorted prizes.
New Jersey Craft Beer Launch Party – Coppermine Pub, North Arlington, NJ
For the last few months, New Jersey Craft Beer has been helping raise awareness of the Garden State’s finer pubs. Tonight they host their formal, long overdue, launch party with over a dozen tri-state area taps including Weyerbacher Oscar, BOAKS Beer 2 blind Monks, and Flying Fish Exit 9. There are raffles, food vendors, and “suprises.” Bring two cans of food for a free sampling of homebrewer Bolero Snort‘s Manolette’s Black Magic Black IPA.
IDRUNKTHAT PICK OF THE WEEK – Ithaca’s 13th on the 13th – Blind Tiger Ale House
Ithaca brewing is turning 13 this month and Blind Tiger is helping them celebrate with 13 draft lines for a boozy Sunday afternoon. While there are no specifics on the draft list (check back for updates) you can expect some rare and delicious brews to be served as neither the bar nor the brewery is known to disappoint.
TRAVEL WORTHY – Brewer’s Plate – Penn Musuem, Philadelphia, PA
Travel out of state for a celebration of independent, sustainable food and beer. Now in its seventh year, Brewer’s Plate brings together the best restaurants, farmers, and breweries within 150 miles of Philadelphia for a socially conscious, and incredibly tasty, afternoon. Less than 100 tickets left so don’t sleep on this one.
Pliny the Younger for a Good Cause – Blue Dog Tavern, Chalfont, PA
If you don’t already have tickets for this Pliny the Younger tapping then you are most likely already out of luck (see, you should read ahead on our listings) but you can still get some Elder or Consecration on tap this afternoon as our Pliny the Younger watch continues
